Black Leg Ranch has now opened its doors to Black Leg Brewery. Black Leg Brewery is located on the Black Leg Ranch and is currently producing many different micro brews. Featuring the flagship’s Copper ALE, brewed with local grown and malted barley, and the ranch’s 230ft deep well water for added uniqueness, with other custom creations on tap.

This 13,000 square foot event space, once a feed barn and Quonset hut about one-quarter that size, opened its doors to events in 2014 and is now a state-of-the-art entertainment venue that has been listed by U.S. News Travel Guide as one of the top destination and values in the country. Named after 2nd generation Jewell Doan Sr., who built the original barn, and with its added beautiful copper exterior, this showstopper building is now the focal point of the ranch. With preserving the integrity and history of the building and ranch, each part of the barn tells a story about the homestead. From custom made wagon wheel and barbwire chandeliers, to 130 year old ranch wood and Soo Line railroad lumber throughout, this historic and unique venue evokes western charm and creates a one-of-a-kind atmosphere and experience.

As of 2018, the back of the barn is now home to Black Leg Brewery, the ranch’s latest business venture. The micro-brewery is proudly serving the flagship’s Copper ALE, brewed with local grown and malted barley, and the ranch’s 230ft deep well water for added uniqueness, with other custom creations on tap. The fully-automated brew house is equipped with a 15-barrel – 30 keg system and welcomes any and all for tours and to pull up a stool to the saloon for a tasting.

OFficial Craft Beer of the NDSU BIson

North Dakota State University has partnered with Black Leg Brewery to launch two officially licensed craft beers, Bison Light and Bison Bock. These two craft beers will be available just in time for the 2023 NDSU football season at the FARGODOME. Bison Beer and Bison Bock will also be in stores and local bars throughout North Dakota.

We value making quality, consistent, easy-drinking beer using the best local ingredients. The majestic Bison is represented on each can of beer along with the icon NDSU Bison, as this beer is undoubtedly American-brewed and now the Official Craft Beer of NDSU. The Bison Beer label’s design represents our Western landscape where the thundering bison once roamed by the hundreds of thousands. Black Leg Ranch is honored to share the vision of North Dakota State by “Continuing the Championship Tradition of Bison Athletics.

Copper Ale

An everyday American copper an everyday American copper ale, carefully crafted with 7 unique malt profiles and 3 separate hop additions offering a mild, pale bitterness. Dry hopped with Amarillo to lend a floral aroma and a smooth, subtle citrus, drink appeal.

Bison Light

A Bolting Light Lager

Centennial IPA

An India pale ale mildly smooth and light-bodied. A hint of sweet instilled honey malt, rounding out a smooth nuttiness and graham cracker taste of biscuit malt.

1882 Lager

A handcrafted, pilsner style lager carefully aged to be uniquely flavorful with a fresh, crisp, thirst quenching drink-ability. Premium aroma hop varieties are used with a combination of barley malt and rice that delivers unwavering light beer refreshment.

Two Track Wheat Ale

A light American wheat ale made from golden wheat harvested from local North Dakota farmers. A refreshing light bodied ale in appearance with sweet bread dough aroma and smooth drink-ability.
